Freetown Jazz Academy proudly participated in the FIBA Youth Camp Coaches Training, marking a historic milestone for the academy and a significant step forward for basketball development in Sierra Leone.
For the first time, our coaching staff was granted the opportunity to be part of a structured, high-level training program organized through the Sierra Leone Basketball Federation. This initiative reflects a growing commitment to improving coaching standards and building a stronger basketball ecosystem across the country.
Held at the National Sports Authority Conference Room, the training brought together coaches from different regions, creating a collaborative environment focused on learning, growth, and knowledge sharing. Sessions were designed to introduce modern coaching methodologies, including advanced offensive and defensive systems, player development strategies, and effective leadership in sports.
Beyond technical skills, the program emphasized the importance of discipline, mentorship, and long-term athlete development—values that align closely with the philosophy of Freetown Jazz Academy.
“This opportunity represents a major breakthrough for us as an academy,” said Head Coach Riski James. “Being part of a program like this allows us to improve our coaching approach and better develop our players to compete at higher levels.”
The knowledge and experience gained from this training will directly impact how we structure our sessions, mentor our players, and prepare them for competitive basketball. It also strengthens our position as one of the leading youth development academies in Sierra Leone.
